A Plea for Prayer

I’ve just returned to Hong Kong from Qinghai province and I am very distressed after meeting with the families of two girls that I wrote to you about last year. The girls are Ruo Ruo and Jun Jun, both of whom were doing well but they now face serious medical issues and need your prayers. In Jun Jun’s case it may be life threatening. When Should You Stop Helping?

Six years ago I lay awake at night vexed by the question : “When should you stop helping?”. The young orphan Ruo Ruo, pictured above, suffered from a life threatening condition that needed immediate attention. She was operated on in Xining. When that failed we flew her to Shanghai. And when that surgery failed we flew her to Hong Kong. My colleagues in other organizations ‘tut-tutted’ the extravagance: all up, by the end of 2003, we had spent HK$ 500,000 to save her life. Doing Something Unusual

Good morning again and I hope it’s an excellent week for you!

Someone asked me about other deaf children in our orphanage after I shared the news about giving 3-year-old Xiao Shan a cochlear implant (See Xiao Shan’s Story). I’m very sorry to tell you that although there are four other deaf children in our orphanage, they are considerably older and are all mentally challenged – making them incapable of learning to process speech.
