A Boy Who Steals Hearts!

This week I’m introducing you to perhaps the bravest little boy I have ever met.  His name is Bin Bin. In 1998, at two weeks old,  he was abandoned, probably because he had several congenital deformities.  Someone picked him up and took him to the police station.  There were no clues and his parents could not be located, so he was admitted to our Children’s Home. Preventing Child Abandonment

You may recall that the week before last I wrote that “Saving abandoned children and seeing them start living life to the fullest is one of the greatest thrills in my life”. There is another thing that excites me no end however, and that is seeing child abandonment being prevented in the first place. Our China staff have been doing a fantastic job at changing a longtime practice of abandoning disabled children – as the following story of Jun Jun and the sacrifices her mother made bear out. Our Administrator Mum is Outstanding!

I spent last week at our Xining Children’s Home in Qinghai Province, and I felt I must introduce you immediately to a very special lady. Madam Li Yonglian was the Administrator when Christian Action was invited to co-manage the home in 1998.  Since then she has won many Awards, including the Civil Affairs Bureau’s Outstanding Worker Award 2001 and the China Worker’s Association’s Outstanding Administrator Award 2007.  After working with Madam Li for 11 years I know that if there was an Outstanding Mother Award, she would have won that too!
